About Us
Like many
entrepeneurial ventures, the Boulder Bikesmith emerged many years ago
from more humble beginnings. Operating out of her custom van, founder
Beth Roy started her bicycle rental and repair business on a strictly
mobile basis.
A
few years later, the business moved to its current location in a unique
arrangement with Breeze Ski Rentals, providing the Bikesmith with a
storefront during the prime summer months. In 2002, longtime Bikesmith
employee and manager, Jon Stabile, purchased the Bikesmith from Beth
to continue to expand upon what she had established in her 12 years
of running the business.
As
Boulder's largest rental shop, the Bikesmith has a niche. Since we sell
only used (vs. new) bikes, we don't compete with Performance Bicycles,
located in the same shopping center. Rather, our businesses complement
one another. Often, a customer interested in purchasing a new bike from
Performance will opt to 'test ride' the bike first, by renting it from
us for a day or two. It also happens that we'll buy someone's used bike,
essentially providing them with a down-payment towards a new bike purchase.
At any rate, it's satisfying to be a part of the recycling process.
In
2003, the Bikesmith took over the storefront space for year-round operation.
So what does the Bikesmith do during the winter months? Along with continuing
service, sales, and rentals, Jon can be seen in the back, in full welding
regalia, designing and fabricating his unique custom cruisers and choppers.
Please contact us with your bicycle needs - if it rolls, we probably
rent it; if it needs to be repaired, we have the expertise; and if it
doesn't yet exist, we can help you design it!
